Private Lessons

Private swim lessons provide the greatest flexibility and one-on-one attention for swimmers 3 years to adult. Lessons are offered in 30-minute or 45-minute sessions, with a variety of packages available. Semi-private lessons are also offered for groups of two swimmers.

All private swim lessons have been cancelled until further notice. Please visit our FAQs page for more information.

Adult Private Lessons
We thank you for your interest in our adult swim lesson program but due to high demand, we are not accepting non-member applicants at this time. If you are a GU student or Yates member and are interested in private lessons, email Emmabeth Jensen.

Children’s Private Lessons
Children’s Private Swim Lessons are in high demand and we have limited instructors available. Below is the link to our interest form. After you have filled out the form, an instructor will contact you to arrange class days/times when they have an opening. We will do our best to find an instructor within 30 days, but it is not guaranteed.

Updated 7/13/22: New clients for children’s private lessons continue to be temporarily postponed. We will update this page once private lessons have resumed. Children’s Private Lesson Interest Form (Children ages 3 to 16)

Please note that no private lessons are available Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sundays from 10:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., due to the pool being closed for regularly scheduled programs.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations can be made via email through the private lesson instructor or coordinator. Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance. Weekend lessons must be canceled before 5pm on Friday.

Refer to the information below for next steps and FAQs regarding your private swim lesson.

First Day:

  • Prior to the first lesson, payment should be made on your Yates online account
  • We suggest you arrive early on the first day, especially if this is your first time to Georgetown’s campus.
  • When you arrive at Yates, please let the front desk know you are here for a “Private Swim Lesson.”  The registration will be under the name of the person taking the lesson.
  • Your lessons will be tracked on the Participant-Instructor form.  This form is the deciding factor for how many lessons you have left if there is a disagreement on lessons used on the participant’s online account.
  • Lessons will expire 6 months after the date of purchase.

  • Directions to Yates Field House
  • All members, guests, and visitors driving to campus MUST park in the Southwest Quadrangle Parking Garage. From the garage, Yates Field House is a short walk up the hill between Thompson Athletic Center and Harbin Field. The parking rate is $5/hour only on weekdays, there is currently no charge on weekends.
  • There is no parking in the lot adjacent to Yates Field House; those who park in the lot beside Yates risk a $125 dollar ticket.

Policies & Recommendations:

  • There are no make-up sessions for lessons canceled less than 24 hours from the scheduled date or for no-shows.  The instructor will notify the Director of Aquatics, and a lesson will be deducted from the package.
  • If you arrive late for your lesson, the instructor will conclude your lesson at the regularly scheduled time.  If the instructor is late, the lesson will continue for the full 30 or 45 minutes.
  • Goggles and a swim cap (for long hair) are HIGHLY recommended.
  • Swimming before and after lessons is limited to Yates Field House members.
  • Only approved swimwear is allowed in the pool.
  • Parents and/or guardians must remain on the pool deck or up in the pool balcony during the lesson.
  • If for any reason you are unhappy with your instructor or anything pertaining to private lessons, please contact Bethany Bower, the Director of Aquatics
