Associate Director of Aquatics & Risk Management

Bethany Bower arrived on the Hilltop in the fall of 1994 as the Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach/Director of Aquatics. In 2006, she left coaching to continue her role as Director of Aquatics, and take on additional responsibilities within Campus Recreation. In her role, she is responsible for daily operations of the pool filter room, as well as scheduling and programming for the McCarthy Natatorium and teaching Red Cross basic and instructor-level courses for the Georgetown community.

Since August 2020, while continuing her duties as Director of Aquatics, Bethany has been a member of the Georgetown Public Health team as a COVID Care Navigator. In April 2021, she was promoted to Care Navigation Manager overseeing the Care Navigation team’s activities and interactions with students, faculty, and staff at Georgetown University.

Other roles she has taken on as a collegiate recreation professional are Chairman of the Aquatics Committee for the 2017 NIRSA Tri-venture Conference and Member of the Host Committee for the 2017 NIRSA National Conference.

Prior to her arrival at Georgetown, Bethany served as the Assistant Women’s Swimming Coach at the U.S. Naval Academy from 1989-93. While coaching, she also served as a Physical Education Instructor, achieved the rank of lieutenant, and was awarded the Naval Achievement Medal for Excellence.

Bethany attended Eisenhower College and received her B.A. in political science after graduating from Hartwick College and obtained her Master’s in Education degree in Sports Management from Springfield College. Bethany achieved NCAA All- American status as a swimmer in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle her sophomore through senior years in college. As a freshman at Eisenhower, Bethany was the NAIA national champion in the 50- and 100-freestyle. In 2002, Bethany was inducted into the Hartwick College Hall of Fame. Bethany and her husband enjoy golfing and traveling to Arizona.
