Fitness Floor Guidelines

These policies apply to ALL fitness spaces in Campus Recreation. Failure to comply with these policies may result in suspension or loss of membership.

Campus Recreation strongly recommends that individuals receive a thorough physical examination from their doctor before beginning an exercise program.

  • Campus Recreation staff members reserve the right to interpret and enforce policies as deemed appropriate to maintain a safe, fun, and inclusive environment
  • Patrons under 16 years of age are not permitted to use weight training and/or cardiovascular equipment
  • Photography/filming is not permitted without prior approval from Campus Recreation Staff
  • Only Campus Recreation trainers and instructors may provide Personal Training, sport instruction, fitness instruction, or coaching in our facilities
  • Chalk use (regular and liquid) is prohibited in the facility 
  • No spitting on the Fitness Floor, in the water fountains, or waste bins
  • Member Safety
    • Campus Recreation strongly recommends that individuals receive a thorough physical examination from their doctor before beginning an exercise program
    • Please report any injuries or faulty/unsafe equipment to a staff member
  • Personal Items
    • Campus Recreation is not responsible for personal items
    • Personal items must be stored in a day locker
    • Talking on cell phones or playing music out loud is prohibited
    • Water or sports drinks are allowed in closed, non-glass containers
    • No chewing gum, food, or tobacco of any kind is allowed
  • Attire
    • Patrons must wear appropriate attire at all times, including:
      • Athletic shirt and athletic pants/shorts
      • Closed-toe/closed-heel athletic shoes (barefoot lifting and stretching are prohibited)
  • Use of Equipment
    • Do not alter fitness center setup (ex. moving benches or other equipment)
    • Patrons are responsible for using equipment as it was intended
    • Patrons must limit the use of cardio equipment to 30-minute sessions during peak usage times
    • Patrons are not permitted to use dumbbells, free weights, or carry backpacks on any cardiovascular equipment
    • Please immediately return all weights, dumbbells, and bars to their proper storage areas after use
    • Please wipe off all strength and cardio equipment after use
  • Lifting
    • Use of weight clips is mandatory for all plate-loaded free weight lifts
    • Weight belts and accessory equipment are available for checkout at the Campus Recreation Pro Shop
    • Patrons must use a spotter for all heavy lifting
    • Power Lifts, Olympic Lifts, Deadlifts, and above the waist movements are only permitted in “The Rack” area. Please refer to The Rack Guidelines for further details

The Rack Guidelines

These policies apply to The Rack in Campus Recreation. Failure to comply with these policies may result in suspension or loss of membership.

  • Campus Recreation staff members reserve the right to instruct patrons how to use equipment properly
  • The Rack equipment must remain in The Rack area at all times
  • Chalk use (regular and liquid) is prohibited in the facility
  • Member Safety
    • All weight training should be performed in a controlled, safe manner
    • Patrons should use extreme caution when lifting weights to avoid potential injury to themselves or others
  • Etiquette
    • Allow others to work in between sets
    • Weights may not be set against the wall, mirror, benches, or other equipment
    • Hands and feet may not be placed on the mirrors
    • Re-rack all plates, dumbbells, and attachments after each use. Plates should not be left on the bars
  • Lifting
    • Olympic Lifting, Powerlifting, and Deadlifting:
    • Above the waist movements with barbells must be performed inside the power rack with safety catch bars properly adjusted
    • Weights may not be dropped from higher than waist height
      • All weights must be controlled to the floor at all times 
      • Slamming or dropping weight stacks, barbells, plates, or dumbbells is prohibited
    • Use of weight clips is mandatory for all plate-loaded free weight lifts
    • Spotters must be used when excessive weight is lifted over the body
