This past November, Maegen Hellberg joined the Yates professional staff as Assistant Fitness Director. Here’s a brief Q&A to get to know our new addition as she embarks on her career at Georgetown!
Q: Where are you coming from?
Prior to arriving at Georgetown, I worked as the Graduate Assistant for Health & Fitness at Campbell University, located about 40 miles south of Raleigh, NC. I maintained this role while completing a master’s degree of Public Heath.
Q: What are your responsibilities at Yates?
Currently, I oversee the Group Exercise program. I also assist the Director of Fitness (Meg Dimsa) with the personal training program and fitness floor as needed.
Q: What is your personal background with recreation, fitness and sports?
Sports have been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was fortunate enough to play varsity soccer for Coastal Carolina University from 2006 to 2010. I was also involved with gymnastics growing up. I became very interested in fitness, wellness and nutrition early on in my collegiate career and it was an easy, seamless transition for me from athletics. I began my fitness career right out of college and worked as a personal trainer, fitness instructor and wellness coach.
Q: What excites you about working at Georgetown and Yates Field House?
I am most excited about getting to interact with the students, faculty, staff and outside members that utilize our facilities. I thoroughly enjoy getting to meet new people and learning more about them. I hope that through these interaction and information gathering, we can develop ways to better serve our community.
Q: What else would you like to share with the Yates community?
I enjoy hiking with my dog, running, cooking and reading. I am originally from Long Island, NY and come from a big family. I love to travel and hope to make it to Fiji one day!
