Fall 2020 Virtual Group Fitness Class Descriptions
The Group Fitness Program at Yates Field House strives to decrease barriers by ensuring classes are relevant and programmatically accessible for participants of all fitness abilities and levels. Please refer to our list of class descriptions below for more information on our scheduled programs.
ABS & STRETCH
A 30-minute class that is made up of part abdominal exercises, part stretching. This class is all about bringing awareness to mind-muscle connection and putting it into practice while strengthening our inner abdominal walls!
BARRELESS BARRE – AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
Barreless Barre is a full body workout that combines techinques from pilates, yoga, and ballet. This 45-minute workout is a high repetition muscle conditioning class focusing on postural strength and alightment. All exercise levels welcome and no equipment necessary!
BOOT CAMP – AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
This 45-minute High Intensity Interval Training class combines a variety of strength, plyometric, and anaerobic bodyweight movements to get you in shape. Boot Camp will challenge you through bursts of exercise and short recovery breaks. All levels are welcome!
CARDIO REMIX – AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
This is a high energy, all cardio class! The instructor will lead you through a blend of hi-lo, dance, and plyometric movements for a total-body workout!
A series of exercises targeting each of the body’s primary muscle groups. This class will utilize a combination of body weight exercises to achieve overall muscle strength and conditioning.
GENTLE YOGA – AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
Center your mind and body while flowing through various postures that promote increased strength, focus and flexibility. This 45-minute class will introduce foundational yoga postures, teach you how to breath and help you feel more comfortable in the yoga practice. Open to all levels.
HAPPY HOUR – AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
A rotation of RecFit Instructors will offer a different class every week! Be prepared for anything from Yoga, to Zumba, to Barre! All Happy Hour classes will be hosted on Zoom for the Fall 2020 Semester. Classes will be released biweekly on IMLeagues.
HARDCORE – AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
Your core is the foundation of all your strength. This 30-minute class will develop and strengthen all the muscles of your core including your abs, glutes, and lower back.
A strength and conditioning class that emphasizes constantly varied, high-intensity functional movement. Work cardiorespiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy, maximizing your performance and fitness for any physical challenge or activity!
HI LO – AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
This class will challenge you by mixing high-intensity and low-intensity moves for an interval-style dance fitness party. Hi Lo is based on traditional aerobics principles that create a steady state cardio workout without the impact of burpees or cardio push tracks.
HIP HOP – AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
Hip Hop is a great way of working out the body through fun and rhythmic exercise. Join us for 45-minutes of dancing to build strength and increase endurance while having fun. Dancing can set you on course for a healthier and more active lifestyle!
HIP HOP TABATA – AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
This 30-minute class will challenge you through a series of four minute hip hop exercise sequences broken into eight intervals (20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest). Hip Hop Tabata will give you a fun, high intensity workout!
MO(BILITY) & FLEX(IBILITY)
Looking for a way to step up your athletic performance? Hoping to reduce muscle strains and risk of injury? Feeling a bit stressed or tense from school or work? Check out this 30-minute mindful flexibility class. With a focus on functional flexibility and intentional use of breath to enhance the exercises, this class will definitely improve your overall well-being!
POWER VINYASA YOGA
An energetic form of Yoga where you will flow from pose to pose while connecting your breath to movement. This class will help you build strength, flexibility, balance, and mental stamina.
STRETCH & FOCUS – AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
Improve posture, recover from workouts, and increase flexibility. During this 30-minute class the instructor will lead you through static and dynamic stretching techinques. This class will also leave you feeling focused and energized through breathing teachinques and a guided meditation!
STRONG CORE YOGA – AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
This yoga class integrates postures that focus on strengthening the muscles in your core. You will flow through a variety of core postures and twists to strengthen the abs, glutes, and lower back.
TOTAL BODY BEATS
A total body(weight) class that includes a series of complex movements and resistance exercises while moving to the beat of the music. You will leave class feeling strong and energized!
YOGA FLOW – AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
Get your flow on in this dynamic 45-minute yoga class! Yoga Flow links movement and breath creating a sense of flow and release tension. You’ll glide and flow into a blissful relaxation. All levels are welcome and will leave feeling centered and renewed.
Set to Latin and international music, Zumba combines salsa, bachata, reggaeton, and hip-hop moves to create a dynamic, full-body workout. Expect a mix of low-intensity and high-intensity exercises for a challenging, fun-filled party!
An interval training class that combines a unique blend of aerobic & muscular endurance training. You’ll alternate between higher intensity cardiovascular drills and complimentary muscular endurance exercises for the ultimate two-in-one workout!
