Fitness Floor Guidelines
These policies apply to ALL fitness spaces in Campus Recreation. Failure to comply with these policies may result in suspension of membership.
Campus Recreation strongly recommends that individuals receive a thorough physical examination from their doctor before beginning an exercise program.
Fitness Floor Guidelines
- Patrons must wear appropriate attire at all times while using workout equipment. Athletic shirts, athletic pants/shorts, and closed-toe/closed-heel athletic shoes are required. Jeans, scrubs, open-toe shoes, Crocs®, and Vibram FiveFinger® shoes are strictly prohibited.
- Barefoot lifting and stretching are strictly prohibited in all fitness spaces. Closed-toe/closed-heel athletic shoes must be worn at all times for health and safety reasons.
- Patrons under 16 years of age are not permitted to use weight training and/or cardiovascular equipment.
- Patrons are responsible for using the fitness equipment as it was intended to be used. Failure to comply may result in suspension or loss of membership.
- Patrons must limit the use of cardio equipment to 30-minute sessions during peak usage times.
- Patrons are not permitted to use dumbbells, free weights, or carry backpacks on any cardiovascular equipment.
- Please be courteous to other members using equipment by immediately returning all weights, dumbbells, and bars to their proper storage areas.
- Use of weight clips/collars is mandatory for all plate-loaded free weight lifts.
- All weights must be controlled to the floor at all times. Slamming or dropping weight stacks, barbells, plates, or dumbbells is prohibited.
- Patrons must use a spotter for all heavy lifting. Please see a Fitness Attendant if needed.
- Power Lifts, Olympic Lifts, Deadlifts, and above the waist movements are only permitted in “The Rack” area.
- Weight belts and accessory equipment are available for checkout at the Campus Recreation Pro Shop.
- Please notify a Fitness Attendant, Facility Manager, or the Director of Fitness & Wellness of any faulty or unsafe equipment; never attempt to repair a machine yourself.
- It is each patron’s responsibility to wipe off all strength and cardio equipment after use. Gym Wipe stations are available in multiple locations for your convenience.
- Do not alter fitness center setup (i.e. moving benches, rearranging weight trees, etc.). Please return equipment to its proper location after use.
- Patrons must store bags, jackets, and large personal items in a day locker. These items are not permitted on the fitness floor due to potential safety hazards.
- Cell phone use is permitted only for listening to music. Please refrain from talking on cell phones while in fitness areas.
- Patrons are permitted to drink water or sports drinks in closed, resealable plastic containers. All other drinks and glass containers are not permitted.
- No chewing gum, tobacco of any kind, or food is allowed in any fitness area.
- Photography/Filming is not permitted without prior approval from Campus Recreation Staff.
- Only Nationally Certified Campus Recreation trainers and instructors may provide Personal Training, sport instruction, fitness instruction, or coaching in our facilities. No exceptions.
- Patrons must adhere to verbal requests from Campus Recreation staff at all times.
- Campus Recreation staff will not tolerate screaming, yelling, or use of offensive language.
- Please report all injuries promptly to a Fitness Attendant, Facility Manager, or the Director of Fitness & Wellness.
- Campus Recreation Staff members reserve the right to interpret and enforce policies as deemed appropriate to maintain a safe, fun, and inclusive environment.
The Rack Guidelines
- Patrons must wear appropriate attire at all times while using workout equipment. Athletic shirts, athletic pants/shorts, and closed-toe/closed-heel athletic shoes are required. Jeans, scrubs, open-toe shoes, Crocs®, and Vibram FiveFinger® shoes are strictly prohibited.
- Barefoot lifting is strictly prohibited in The Rack. Closed-toe/closed-heel, non-marking athletic shoes must be worn at all times for health and safety reasons.
- Patrons under 16 years of age are not permitted to use weight training equipment in The Rack.
- Patrons should use extreme caution when lifting weights to avoid potential injury to themselves or others.
- All weight training should be performed in a controlled, safe manner.
- Use of weight clips/collars is mandatory for all plate-loaded free weight lifts.
- Please use proper weight lifting etiquette. Allow others to work in-between sets.
- Olympic Lifting, Power Lifting, Dead Lifting, and above the waist movements with barbells are only permitted in The Rack.
- All Power Lifting, Olympic Lifting, and Dead Lifting must be performed on the platforms or inside the power rack. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- All above the waist movements with barbells must be performed inside the power rack with safety catch bars properly adjusted. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- All Power Lifting, Olympic Lifting, Dead Lifting, and above the waist movements with barbells must use rubber bumper plates. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Weights may not be set against the wall, mirror, benches, or other equipment.
- Please do not place hands or feet on the mirrors.
- All weights must be controlled to the floor at all times. Slamming or dropping barbells, plates, or dumbbells is prohibited.
- Patrons must use a spotter for all heavy lifting. Please see a Fitness Attendant if needed.
- Chalk use is prohibited in the facility.
- Use of equipment other than its designed function is prohibited. Equipment should only be used for its intended purpose. Modification is prohibited.
- Please report equipment malfunction or damage to a Fitness Attendant, Facility Supervisor, or the Director of Fitness & Wellness.
- Re-rack all plates, dumbbells, and attachments after each use. Plates should not be left on the bars.
- The Rack weight equipment must remain in The Rack area at all times.
- Campus Recreation Staff reserves the right to instruct patrons how to use equipment properly.
- Lockers are available for storage of personal belongings while working out.
- No spitting in The Rack, in the water fountains, or waste bins.
- No chewing gum, tobacco of any kind, or food is allowed in any fitness area.
