Abigail has been an instructor at Yates since 2017. She loves teaching SpinCore and Spinning, and also enjoys running and taking other Group Fitness classes at Yates. Abigail received a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California and a Master’s degree in Asian Studies from Georgetown.
Alejandra joined Yates Field House in April 2018, and has been teaching yoga since 2015. She is currently a Junior in the SFS, studying Science, Technology and International Affairs. Alejandra has been practicing yoga for over 10 years and is passionate about all types of exercise. Apart from yoga, her passion lies in SCUBA diving and martial arts.
Initially from Hawaii, Alicia migrated to Washington DC to pursue a Master's degree in Biomedical Science Policy and Advocacy at GU. She completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training at Yoga District, a Yoga Alliance recognized institute. While Alicia has been part of the Yates team since Fall of 2017, now that she is officially an alum, she can be found subbing Yoga classes here at Yates.
Andrea joined the Yates Field House team in 2014 as a yoga instructor teaching for faculty, staff, and students at all levels. She helped establish a yoga class offering off-campus in the Harris building. She primarily substitutes on main campus for flow and power yoga classes. She also teaches for special group events (e.g., Georgetown Basketball, Wounded Warriors) and assists in developing student orientation self-care trainings. Andrea is also a PhD student in public health at the George Washington University and works at the Georgetown University Medical Center in cancer prevention research. She enjoys running, getting outside and backpacking, as well as curating Spotify playlists for her classes!
Yoga Sculpt Instructor
Ani was born and raised in Miami, FL. She was trained by Corepower Yoga to teach Yoga Sculpt in late 2017 and has been teaching ever since! In her classes, you can expect a lot of challenge and even more fun. When she’s not sculpting, she loves boating, dogs, doing other workouts, and spending time with her fellow triplets!!!
Ankita joined the Yates Field House team in July 2018, after completing her Zumba Fitness Instructor training in Spring 2018. She received her Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her Master's of Science in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University. Outside of working at Yates Field House, Ankita works full-time for Access to Integrative Medicine (AIM) Health Institute, a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. that aims to open the world of integrative medicine to all regardless of financial circumstances. In her free time, Ankita can be found exploring DC and its amazing food and art scenes, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and working out. Fun fact: Ankita scuba dived (for the first time!) and climbed Bali's second tallest volcano - all in one day!
Ashleigh is a graduate of George Mason University, and found her passion for Zumba while teaching during undergrad. She has been teaching for 3 years, and teaches Zumba and Dance Cardio formats. When she is not encouraging her group fitness classes to SLAY, she is the Event Manager for the Georgetown Event Management Services office. Ashleigh currently lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with her fiancé, and loves running/biking the Mount Vernon trail, so she can enjoy all of the delicious food in Georgetown!
Spin/Boot Camp Instructor
Bethany's love for spinning started during her time as a student on the Hilltop. After being a regular participant at Yates classes, she became a certified Spin instructor in the summer of 2012 and has been teaching ever since! She loves to make themed playlists and choreograph her classes so you feel like it’s a party on the bike – while getting your sweat on! In addition to indoor cycling, Bethany is a four-time marathoner - actively training for more - and a certified group fitness instructor. She loves bagels and hates burpees.
Brittany started instructing group fitness and joined the Yates Field House team in August 2016. Her favorite formats to teach include Spin, HIIT, Strength, & Total Body Conditioning. Brittany received her Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Mount St. Mary's University. Outside of the studio, she can be found working, hanging out with friends, exploring DC, watching the TV show FRIENDS, drawing, or reading.
Spin/Strength & Conditioning/Kickboxing Instructor
Christie joined the Yates Field House team in July of 2017 and has been instructing group fitness since 2011. Her favorite formats to teach include Strength & Conditioning, Spin, HIIT, Total Body Conditioning, Boot Camp, and Kickboxing. She holds her Group Fitness Instructor Certification through AFAA, is a certified Mad Dogg Spinning Instructor, and also is a certified Core de Force LIVE Instructor. Christie received her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Exercise Physiology, and a Master's degree in Exercise Science from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. Outside of work, she can be found exploring the outdoors with her dog, cycling, lifting weights, or heading to a NATS game with her fiancé. Fun fact: Christie is the youngest of four girls (her poor father)!
Group Fitness Instructor
Courtney joined the Yates Field House team in January of 2018. She is a NASM certified personal trainer and ACE certified group fitness instructor. Her favorite format to teach is Boot Camp because it allows her to incorporate a variety of exercise styles -- strength training, cardio, and HIIT! When she’s not teaching, she enjoys collecting new hobbies, including skiing, writing, and most recently, horseback riding.
Group Fitness Instructor
Gillian graduated from Georgetown University in 2001 and has been working out at Yates Field House for 20 years. She began teaching group fitness classes at Yates 13 years ago and has taught step, spinning, and various cardio and weights classes. She received her degree in Accounting and then managed her own portfolio of real estate investment properties in Georgetown. She lives just outside the GU campus and now spends most of her time caring for the two young children that she and her husband (also a GU grad) have.
Grace is new to the Yates Field House team this year! She grew up studying classical ballet, and initially began practicing Yoga in her early teens to supplement her dancing. Grace fell in love with the philosophy and athleticism of the Yoga community, and completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with YogaWorks in New York City. She is a current student in the Georgetown College studying History, Theology, and Italian, and is a group leader in GIVES on campus! When she's not studying or practicing Yoga, Grace loves spending time with her friends in the Georgetown neighborhood and baking gluten-free desserts.
Grace joined the team in 2017. She is currently a junior in the college, with a double major in Government and Economics, and a minor in History. Outside of teaching, she can be found running (she completed her first marathon last year), taking other Spin classes, and doing Yoga. Grace’s hobbies include reading, investing, and working-out. Once she finishes up her undergrad at GU, she is looking to move forward with Law School!
Jenn joined the Yates Field House team in August 2017 shortly after she received her Yoga Instructor Certification. She loves power and Bikram-style yoga, but is also an avid runner outside the studio. In addition, Jenn is a second-year MBA student at McDonough and is pursuing a marketing career that complements her passion for health and wellness. Jenn received her Bachelor's Degree from Colgate University with a major in History and French.
John has been involved in boxing at Yates since 2006 – first as one of the assistant coaches to the legendary Tom Quinn (C’55 and former NCAA heavyweight champ) and since 2014, running the recreational boxing program. One of the last fighters personally trained by Tom, John is now a USA Boxing-certified coach, but he continues to benefit from the experience of former Georgetown boxer Tony Essaye (also C’55) who often stops by class. John recommends reading Hemingway’s “Fifty Grand” if you want to see what first got him into all this.
Group Fitness Instructor
Lane is a proud Hoya alumna (C'12) and started teaching group fitness at Yates in July 2013. She teaches Spinning, P90X, and PiYo. Lane works for the federal government and received her B.A. in Government from Georgetown University and her M.P.S. in Legislative Affairs from the George Washington University. Outside of work and the gym, Lane plays in a competitive skeeball league and takes trips back home to Maine.
Lauren began graduate school at Georgetown University in June 2017 and has been a loyal member of Yates Field House ever since! She is new to instructing and very excited to be a part of this group fitness team. She received her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing at UVA, and is now working on her Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia at Georgetown. She has always loved attending group fitness classes and says that it's the perfect stress reliever and confidence booster!
Lindsey joined the Yates Field House team in August of 2017 as a Zumba instructor. She loves to teach high-energy dance classes with Latin and belly dance technique, and you will never leave her class without a smile on your face! She is currently a student at George Washington University pursuing a BA in Geography and Geographic Information Systems. When not shimmying to her heart’s content, Lindsey enjoys making maps, practicing yoga, and leading her Boy Scout troops into the great outdoors on the weekends. Fun fact: Lindsey is a Boy Scouts of America Cubmaster!
Lisa’s connection with GU began when she arrived as a Freshman for her undergraduate studies at Georgetown’s School of Business Administration. By her Junior year, Lisa was attending GFIT classes, and a few years later (as a 1L at Georgetown University Law Center), was instructing exercise classes at Yates. When Lisa began teaching group fitness, there were limited formats on the schedule, and she immediately gravitated toward High-Impact ‘Aerobics’. Through the years, Lisa has taught a variety of classes – including High/Low Aerobics, Step, Circuit Training, Total Body Conditioning, Cardio/Cross/Core, and HIIT. What has been, and continues to be the common thread in Lisa’s classes are passion, intensity, and most of all, fun! In her spare time, Lisa enjoys spending time with her family and friends, gardening, and taking her workouts outdoors, where she is an avid cyclist, hiker, tennis enthusiast, and yogi.
Maegen joined the Yates Field House team in November of 2014 and has been instructing group fitness classes since 2010. She holds a Group Fitness Instructor certification from ACE, TRX training certification, and Mad Dogg Spinning certification. She thoroughly enjoys teaching Athletic Conditioning, HIIT, Cardio Strength, Total Body Conditioning, and Spinning. Maegen received her BS in Biology/Pre-medical Sciences from Coastal Carolina University and her MS in Public Health from Campbell University. When Maegen isn't teaching, you can find her trying out new recipes and cuisines, playing with her pup, exploring the great outdoors with her husband, and remodeling her home. A fun fact about Maegen, she met Michael Phelps at a restaurant in Charleston, SC when she was in high school!
Maria first began teaching Zumba at Yates Field House in January of 2018. Dancing has always played a significant role in her life, and she is trained pre-professionally in a variety of styles. Maria is a Finance and Accounting major in Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business class of 2020.
Maria Fe, or “Mafe” as her friends like to call her, started practicing yoga in 2007. Her initial motivation was to find a way to manage the stresses of graduate school. She fell in love with yoga right away and found (and keeps finding) in yoga a path to heal physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Following her new passion for yoga, she completed the Forrest Yoga Foundation Teacher Training in 2011 and the Forrest Yoga Certification Level 2 in 2017. Mafe joined the Yates Field House team in 2015. Ever the scientist, Mafe delights in linking the philosophy of yoga with Western science, and she will share this knowledge in her classes. Outside work, she can be found having fun with her family, cooking or enjoying a cup of coffee.
Megan is a Senior at Georgetown and has been instructing Spin at Yates Field House since her Freshmen year. She loves the energy that her students bring to her classes and always looks forward to teaching. She is pursuing a Psychology Major and Business Administration Minor and plans to graduate in the spring of 2019. When she's not teaching spin or going to class, you can find her exploring the outdoors, playing lacrosse, or soaking up some sun on Copley Lawn.
Originally from the U.K, Melanie joined the team in July 2017. Melanie holds an MBA but says her passion is deep rooted in health and wellness. She is a level 3 Elite Spinning(r) Instructor and has been teaching since 1999. She holds certifications in personal training, Spinpower based training as well as group exercise. Off of the Spinning(r) bike she can be found enjoying family time with her husband, two teenage daughters and two toy poodles. Fun Fact: She is a former National Figure Skating Champion and has trained at the Olympic Training Centre.
Strength & Conditioning/HIIT Instructor
Morgan joined the Yates Field House team in August 2018 and has been instructing group fitness since May 2018. Morgan has been a dancer most of her life which led her to her love of fitness. She enjoys any workout driven by a good beat and loves making playlists for her classes. Her favorite classes to teach are strength and cardio interval classes and Tabata. Morgan is currently a sophomore in the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown. Outside of work she can be found exploring D.C., lifting weights, and spending time with friends.
Nikki joined the Yates team as a spin instructor in August of 2017 before starting her junior year as an undergraduate Spanish major here at Georgetown. Her favorite forms of exercise are spin (of course!), strength training, yoga, and hiking. Nikki is also a Precision Nutrition Level 1 certified nutrition coach and hopes to become a RD with a masters in Nutrition after she graduates. Outside of Yates, she can be found spending time with friends, studying in Lau, or exploring the DC food scene. Fun fact: Nikki became a spin instructor to overcome her fear of public speaking!
Olivia joined the Yates Field house team in March 2016 as a Yoga instructor. She is also the Assistant Director of Faculty Services for the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University. Olivia graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in International Studies and minors in Political Science and French. In her spare time, you can catch Olivia doing yoga, taking a spin class, hiking through Rock Creek Park, or trying a new restaurant. Olivia's classes offer a safe space to explore your mind, body, and everything in between!
Rita fell in love with indoor cycling while marathon training during Boston's snowy winters, and became certified to teach Spinning classes this past March. When she's not studying in the library, Rita enjoys monument runs, cooking, and exploring new activities around the city with friends. Expect a fun, rhythm-driven class where you'll be challenged to let loose, laugh, push, sweat, and enjoy the ride!
Group Fitness Instructor
Rosemary joined the Yates Field house team over two decades ago and is a certified Zumba instructor. In addition to teaching Zumba classes, Rosemary has taught cardio kickboxing, high-low impact, step and strength classes. Her primary affiliation with the University is a senior leader serving as the Vice President, Institutional Diversity & Equity. Rosemary received her BA and MA degrees from Kent State University and her JD degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
Sabrina joined the Yates Field House Team in May of 2018 as a group fitness instructor. She is currently a Pre-Med student working towards her Bachelor's degree in Health Care Management and Policy at Georgetown University. When Sabrina is not in the Spinning studio, you can find her eating her way through all the best restaurants in DC, walking along the waterfront, or studying in the Bioethics Library.
Sara discovered yoga at her local gym when she was in high school. What started as a fun fitness class quickly evolved into a therapeutic practice that guides her daily life. Her favorite styles to practice include Vinyasa, Hatha, and Yin Yoga. Yoga brought Sara a huge sense of both physical and mental relief. As a result, she decided to become a yoga teacher in order to help others follow a similar path. She completed her 200 HR teaching certification from Green Tree Yoga & Meditation in Los Angeles and is currently in the process of completing her 300 HR certification at Tranquil Space here in DC. When she is not on her yoga mat, Sara also enjoys practicing AcroYoga, going to concerts, discovering new foods, and spending time with the people she loves.
Older Adult Tone Instructor
Sharon has been involved in the Fitness Industry for over forty years. She joined the Yates Field House team in September 1983 and retired as full-time Fitness Director in May 2005. Her duties as Fitness Director were to design, implement and oversee a fitness program for the Yates membership. She has taught a variety of classes and presently teaches MWF mornings, Older Adult Tone. She has two certifications with the American College of Sports Medicine: Fitness Instructor and Exercise Physiologist. She loves the outdoors and is a passionate hiker and avid cyclist.
Group Fitness/Spin Instructor
Originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico, Sheila has been a member of the Georgetown community and Yates Field House for over 15 years. She received an MA and JD from Georgetown, and holds her Group Fitness Instructor certification from AFAA. Sheila specializes in teaching all forms of cardio conditioning including HIIT, Cardio Strength, Total Body Conditioning, and Spinning. In her spare time she can be seen sharing the perfect cocktail with her partner, attending lacrosse and basketball games with their two daughters, chasing squirrels with their pup, and playing a round of golf or two. A fun fact about Sheila, she is the youngest child of eleven!
Yoga Sculpt Instructor
Sofia is new to the Yates Field House Team, and she is so excited to be part of the family! She began teaching Yoga Sculpt in March of 2018. Not only does she do yoga at least 5 times a week, but she also loves running, spin, TRX, and any other exercise format. Since she was born and raised in Venezuela her classes are always poppin’ with Latin Music.
Steve is a Hoya by way of the Law Center, having earned an LLM in Taxation a very long time ago. He has been a Yates member since 1988 and has been a Mad Dogg-certified Spinning instructor at Yates since 2008. By day, Steve is General Counsel for a global consulting company, and in his spare time, enjoys catching live music gigs in various genres at various venues (which explains his eclectic Spinning playlists) and with his wife, doing fun stuff with their two kids - both of whom are recent college graduates and reside locally.
One Step Beyond Instructor
During many years of employment at Georgetown University Hospital, Wendy Steele enjoyed an early morning exercise class at Yates to get her day off to a good start. In 2007 she decided to take advantage of a training class at the gym, and after passing the certification exam for group fitness instructors, she was offered the opportunity to join the teaching staff at Yates to broaden the "older adult" weight training program in the morning by adding an aerobic exercise and core strengthening class. During the August 2018 summer break, Wendy completed her recertification requirements to continue teaching at Yates through the 2018-2019 academic year.
